兒子最近扮演一種他想像出來的怪獸，叫彎腳怪獸。牠是依據特徵命名的，牙齒又長又尖，彎腳比最大的蜥腳類恐龍還大，是二疊紀最兇猛的肉食性動物。分類上屬於二疊紀的麗齒獸類（他畫了一張樹狀圖，麗齒獸類有麗齒獸跟彎腳怪獸兩種，同時期還有甲龍類的盾甲龍）。後來這怪獸越來越誇張，有半個地球大，是從外太空別的星球來的，地球上只有一隻住在地底下，原來的星球上還有幾千隻同伴，這段我想是受了變形金剛的影響）。

Today Jeremy Lin of New York Knicks broke his career record again, in his first career start in NBA. 28 points, 8 assists, 2 steals. Learned a lot about my school today when editing photos taken in Tsinghua University. The campus is huge, with many historical buildings. It felt like walking in Stanford. I felt emotional being there, because we are the same school separated by civil war, and finally see each other again after its 100-year birthday. Except the name, I didn't know the two school had so many things still the same. Thanks to Wikipedia.

Happy New Year to all! As usual, we watched the Taipei 101 fireworks from our window. Due to the weather, it was especially smoky this year. You could actually see a huge cluster of smoke slowly moving outward, and it continued to grow instead of being blown away by wind. Anyway, you can always find better videos or photos online, but there's only one place to let my two little kids watch the fireworks in a warm room and then go to sleep in minutes, for free.

Got another note from another cleaner, who noticed I left my apple in plate and replace the fruit plate with only bananas and oranges. Even if this is in their SOP, it is still so surprising the service of a oure China hotel already take care of such details. I don't think an US hotel will ever do something like this. China is indeed civilized in a pace faster than anyone would have expected.

One day my son and I pasted animal stickers on an alarm clock while we were singing a song about animal birth signs. Surprisingly, my son also learned to tell the time easily on this animal clock. For example, he can communicate with us by saying "it's tiger hour monkey minutes", which is much easier than converting to 60-minute system.

Two weeks ago Yoshi expected to have picnic in school, but weather was bad so they had picnic inside school. Therefore we took him out today to the Zoo and found a quiet corner in the Children Animals area. Last night I had a eel rice dinner with my colleagues. Surprisingly it was very crowded on Thursday night, so we waited for one hour before we finally get our meals. However, it was really delicious. Today we took Yoshi and Summer to Miramar. We had delicious Dim Sum. Yoshi rode merry-g-round three times and ferry wheel, had his favorite black sesame cereal, and bought a big Squidward Tentacles stuffie. He even picked a Gary the Snail for his sister. Both kids and their mom has been sick for one week. I hope they get well soon.

Now she can say many words (although most of the words I doubt that people other than us can understand). She is gradually learning to walk, and she likes to dance with music. This story is a little long, so I need to explain some background info first. Recently I have a lot of late-night conference calls, so I have very little time with my son before he goes to bed. Most of the time Allie plays with him to distract him, and he became very insecure and often rushes into our room at nights to find Allie.

This morning Allie went to work early. When my son rushed into our room and found that mom was not home, he began to cry out loud in anger and frustration. I talked to him and played with him for about 30 minutes until finally he was cheered up.

Then, I told him that I need to drive my car for maintenance, he begged me to wait until he finished his morning bottle of milk, which I agreed. When I picked up my bag after he finished his milk, he begged to go with me. I said the car was too dangerous until it is repaired, and then I left.

in the evening, he called my cell phone and asked me if my car was repaired already. He asked me to drive home quickly. I said I will try to get home early but I could not drive too fast because there were many cars on the road. He said, "But I miss you so much! Please drive faster!" He is so sweet when he is not angry! I hope these late calls will stop soon.

Yoshi is three years old today. It feels like a long time already but also so fast. Sometimes I forget that he is just a "baby" if you consider someone younger than three years old. In these three years he physically grew up to almost 100 cm tall, learned to speaks fluent Mandarin and some English and Taiwanese, can count to 29 (and then need to ask which "ten" comes next), and likes reading, singing and playing a lot of games he invented. He also like to help on houseworks. Happy birthday, son!

I finished reading "Girl with Dragon Ratio". In the book Stieg Larsson wrote the handsome jounalist brought a Microtek scanner with him when he came to the island, and he used an Agfa film scanner to scan films in his research. Back in 2001, compared to other gears he used such as an iBook, the two scanners were also a symbol of his taste and profession. I happened to be quite familiar with scanners, especially these two brands. Now Agfa is no longer selling scanners, and Microtek is almost not found anywhere. If Larsson is still alive, I wonder if he can still find someone to repair his scanners -- and it's just less then ten years ago when they were big names in the industry.

Had a biz trip to Vegas last week. No a penny spent on slot machine. Not watched a single show.

First time driving in USA. Driving was not a problem, but without a GPS was. I got too dependent on a GPS so suddenly I can't drive without one. It was especially hard at nights when it's hard to see the signs, and I often drove onto wrong lane so had to turn or could not turn, and thus needed to find another way.

This Chinese New Year holidays we had a family trip to my home town Kaohsiung. It is strange to call it a trip because we need to go there every year on the Chinese New Year to see my father and grandparents. However, since my two brother-in-laws all need to go to southern Taiwan because they both married Southern Taiwanese girls, my mother-in-law will be left in Tamshui alone so we need to hurry back on the second day of the new year in the past. This year we managed to make some changes. My brother-in-law drove his mom to meet us in Kaohsiung on his way to Ping Dong, and then we can spend a few more days in Kaohsiung. My son and daughter finally have a chance to know my home town. Sully went with us the whole time.

Yesterday I was called into CEO Office with some colleagues. I wondered what the meeting was for because the combination of attendees did not fit any on-going project. Then the answer was revealed. My boss was very upset and angry about the resignation of a key engineer, because he thought it was still under negotiation but the engineer believed it was accepted so he left. He was so frustrated and needed to give vent to his anger, but as a CEO, he can't just complaint to his colleagues like we do. He can't bring it home to his wife and children, either. So, he called a fake meeting to invite a few people he think he can talk about it. I almost felt sorry for him. As an old Chinese poem goes, it's freezing at high positions.

It's been a long time since my last post. I've been very busy because I'am also doing community service in the building I live besides work and family. Now my schedule is always full even on weekends.

This Wednesday I had a dinner on the 85th floor of Taipei 101. We had a whole-day meeting with two important Dutch customers and then had the dinner with our chairman. It was the first time I visited the top areas of this building, although I live only 15 minutes away and go there often. The view was magnificent at night, with beautiful lights below and clouds flying by the window. Maybe I will take my son to the observatory someday when he's older.

Since his baby sister came home, Yoshi found himself in a dilemma. He likes baby sister and likes to be a big brother taking care of her, but he also want to maintain his old life when he got all the attention. As a result, you'll find him behaves like a grownup helping his mommy changing diapers at one time, and in the next five minutes he degraded to a baby who piss on the floor and refused to change his wet clothes.

My mom and wife are going crazy chasing him before he bumps into walls or closets (he often does), and preventing him from hurting his sister accidentally.

You can talk about many theories how to handle this, but the fact is, nothing works. It's something we just have to live with for a long long time.

Recently the media is very interested in those social networks services and micro-blogging tools, such as Facebook, Twitter or Plurk. TIME magazine had a cover story in June on Twitter, and the Business Week and many others followed that in Taiwan. Obama is a well-known twitter user, and so is Oprah Winfrey. Many politicians and companies have been trying to gain the same influence or popularity in cyberspace with such tools, but so far I don't see anyone very successful.

From the reports on these media, I found most of their angles are so narrow-sighted or even ridiculous --perhaps that's why they can't benefit from it. The reports are so focused on how much potential it can be to reach so many unknown users in the world and people can hear you with so limited expenses. They pick one or two super-star users to backup their arguments that companies can benefit from this super-long lever. I think that's so wrong from the beginning.

For me, I use such social network tools to satisfy my social needs in the cyberspace to overcome the restraints in the physical world. In Marslow's hierarchy of needs, it's the love and belonging layer or even in the self-esteem layer. However, if such tools are only treated as a cheap marketing option for a company or an individual, it is down-graded to financial security or even the basic needs for food. That's why we see so many politicians hire part-time workers to write for them on Twitter or Plurk, and naively thinks that people can't tell. Believe me, anyone who has real-life friends in the virtual world can tell the difference, not to mention those who have real friends in cyberspace.

After more than one year, Wang finally won a game since his injury in base-running. Although his strike counts is only average compared to his best days, but his GO/AO is a strong indicator that his sinker is back. Perhaps thanks to the luck brought by JJ Wang as in old Taiwanese saying. I think this win not only relieved his pressure to prove himself to Cashman and Girardi, but the stress of his teammates trying to help him out. Way to go, Wanger!

Another good new is that Tigers called up RHP Ni Fu-Te today, marking the first Taiwanese player to join MLB from CPBL (first player was Melvin Mora of Orioles). This is noticeable especially in the bad times of CPBL that struggles to attract audience and the national team lost all major international games in the last few years. I'm not a supporter for CPBL, but for Taiwan baseball players. If the team owners still think the professional baseball in Taiwan is a favor from them and everyone should thank them and never criticize them, the players have no choice but to prove that they can compete in MLB level and forget about CPBL.

On Chinese Characters

This foreign student obviously knows more about the value of the heritage of Chinese culture lies in the Chinese characters than President Ma. I wonder if Ma has never actually speak to a real person from China so that he is stupid enough to toss the topic of "Reading Traditional, Writing Simplified" in his speech. I don't see any problem in the communication caused by the Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese. People from China or Singapore write me emails in Simplified Chinese, and I write them back in Traditional Chinese, and we all understand each other.

Besides, I believe many young people in China now actually is getting more and more familiar with Traditional Chinese because that watch a lot of (pirated) TV programs from Taiwan, along with those embedded subtitles and on-screen-messages written in Trad Chinese. Hundreds of thousands of Taiwanese also learned Simp Chinese already. As a President, why bother raising an issue which is not beneficial in practical matters? He should know more about the influence of Taiwan Culture in the Great China area and enhance that, not to dump them to toilet and surrender to China.

Simplified Chinese is not logical, and it's one-to-many compared to original characters. It's not just a word being converted to a simplified form, but many words is dropped or replaced by another which only sounds the same, such as 發/髮 or 後/后. For this, I think it's not s good and complete system.

On the other hand, the symphonic system (Pin Yin) using Roman characters is a superior one than the ridiculous system used o the street signs in Taiwan. How am I supposed to know Cheng means 政 or 成, not to mention that Chi can be 基 or 奇, when they all use "Ch"? They are "Zh", "Ch", "J" and "Q" respectively in the China system. Isn't it more logical?

Yesterday I heard a shocking and sad news. David's wife passed away after she gave birth to their second baby. All her family suffer from high blood pressure so it was very dangerous for her to be pregnant already. They tried several times to have a second baby, but all ended up with miscarriage in late pregnancy. It's the fourth time. I don't know what to say, just overwhelmed by the shock and sadness. It's the second time such tragedy happened on my friends. I found this picture of her and her son in my album.

Yesterday was a cloudy and cool Sunday, and we decided to took Yoshi to Taipei Zoo. We wanted to show him what real animals look like, otherwise he might think that they are all painted in colors as in cartoons and puzzle blocks. It was interesting to see what he connects those animals he saw with the pictures at home. The most interesting part was when he sang out loud trying to attract elephants and hippos to come forward. That was the loudest voice I've ever heard from him except for crying. :)

Last Friday a sales was fired. She was trying her best but the company did not recognize her hard-work. Today I was called in to the CEO's office. Obviously the sales said something honest on her last day, which was not very pleasing to the bosses. My boss told me that he wants to UNDO what happened in the last three months, and to begin damage control. The damage refers to the impact on the command system in the sales team that is collapsing due to different directions inside. I was blamed for spreading negative opinions and tense relationship with sales. It can't be undone, but seems I need my damage control plan now.

Sell It to Your Boss

Recently there's been argues on company directions and where to put most of our resources on. The main reason is that we didn't have marketing function in the organization before, and the CEO and Sales head have different directions on what's the best move in such troubled time to prepare for the rising wave when it comes.

Our not-clearly-defined-and-treated-as-sales marketing people complains that the company only values OEM sales; marketing is more like a liability than an asset. They are forced to change their job function to serve OEM customers as sales assistant, which will deprive their previous time from marketing planning. As everyone can imagine, every body is thinking about quitting.

Yes, every boss is an idiot. However, I would say, if you are willing to spend 6 months educating potential customers, create relationship with channels, and expect people you don't know to buy your products, why not spend three months to educate your boss, improve relationship with the one who pay your bills, and see what will happen? Quitting may look cool, but it ain't get you anywhere except one job after another and another, because there's always another idiot waiting in the next company. I will not go down without a fight--tenderly.

Just returned to work from 9-day New Year vacation. Allie and I took one extra day off, so it was ten days for us. We went 300 km south to Kaohsiung for family reunion, a must-do but not always pleasant tradition. My grandfather and grandmother, now in their eighties, are not the kind of people you want to spent your holiday with. Actually, there were two small argues and one big fight when we were there. It may be the last time I follow this tradition to ruin my holidays.

After Kaohsiung, we then went back north to Tamshui and stayed with Allie's family. Yoshi had a good time there because there was more space for him to run, and there were many toys to play while his cousin was away.

When we finally returned to Taipei, Yoshi fell asleep right after dinner time--very very early for him compared to his usual schedule. He became very shy to strangers in the vacation--maybe there were too many new people and new places to him. That summarized the vacation, if not with the surprise that came on Sunday.

One o'clock in Sunday morning, Yoshi got a fever which reached 39 degrees. I was not too worried because he seemed still as energetic as usual. My mom "strongly suggested" that we took him to a nearby clinic on Sunday morning, so we did. On the way home, he began to said that his belly aches. In the evening he had diarrhea. At sunrise time of Monday, the fever raised to 40 degrees and he shivered badly. So, we took him to ER. The resident on duty was an interesting one. He finishes his diagnosis very quickly but spent a lot of time teaching me the reason of fevers and signs should be alerted. I guess he had saw too many cases far worse then Yoshi so in this case there was no need to go to ER. He also knows that such thing will happen again and again as Yoshi grows up, so he tried to prepare me for that.

Yoshi's fever now lasts two to three hours at 40 degrees, and the peak repeats every five to six hours. This is only the second day in the progress, still several days to go before he recovers from this virus infection and develops new immunity for it.

A Japanese drummer who lives in Kaohsiung filmed this video to introduce the city he lives and works. Toda Yasuhiro fell in love with the city and married a Taiwanese girl. I lived in Kaohsiung for 18 years and although I rarely go back now, it's still a pride to see someone from another country cherishes my hometown.

Steve Jobs more than a CEO to Apple and Mac fans. He is a legend, a religion, or even a god to many Mac fans. He is probably the best sales person in the technology world, and his keynote and demonstration is a million times better than Bill Gates. Therefore the health of Steve Jobs is a big concern to many investors, especially after his recovery from cancer and drastically losing weight last year. Before the first Macworld without Steve in more than a decade, Apple released a public letter explaining his health conditions. Here is the letter:

Dear Apple Community,

For the first time in a decade, I’m getting to spend the holiday season with my family, rather than intensely preparing for a Macworld keynote.

Unfortunately, my decision to have Phil deliver the Macworld keynote set off another flurry of rumors about my health, with some even publishing stories of me on my deathbed.

I’ve decided to share something very personal with the Apple community so that we can all relax and enjoy the show tomorrow.

As many of you know, I have been losing weight throughout 2008. The reason has been a mystery to me and my doctors. A few weeks ago, I decided that getting to the root cause of this and reversing it needed to become my #1 priority.

Fortunately, after further testing, my doctors think they have found the cause — a hormone imbalance that has been “robbing” me of the proteins my body needs to be healthy. Sophisticated blood tests have confirmed this diagnosis.

The remedy for this nutritional problem is relatively simple and straightforward, and I’ve already begun treatment. But, just like I didn’t lose this much weight and body mass in a week or a month, my doctors expect it will take me until late this Spring to regain it. I will continue as Apple’s CEO during my recovery.

I have given more than my all to Apple for the past 11 years now. I will be the first one to step up and tell our Board of Directors if I can no longer continue to fulfill my duties as Apple’s CEO. I hope the Apple community will support me in my recovery and know that I will always put what is best for Apple first.

Good and Bad

Welcome! New Year. There is always new hopes and plans in the beginning of a year, and this year seems really exciting.

First, the good news. My wife Allie is now three-months pregnant. The expected date of delivery is July 25, 2009. Next month we'll know if we are welcoming a male or female Leo. Allie's appetite is complete different this time. Sometimes she gets hungry very soon after a big meal, and sometimes she does not feel like eating anything. Every baby has its own preference.

As for bad news, Allie and I argue (or fight) very often in the past few weeks. Partly because of her work not going as smooth as she expected -which led to lots of pressure in our lives- and partly because of (I guess) unstable mood in pregnancy. Working in the same office is not easy, because there is inevitable conflict in the roles in our work and personal life.

He called his mom and grandma when he saw something exciting, seemed eager to share with others. Almost New Year

Tomorrow is the last day of the year. Looking back on the year 2008, most of the joy comes fun the progress made by my son.

Today he correctly said my name when asked by his grandma, only the third day since she began to teach him for about ten times. He likes dogs, butterflies, flowers, and running on grass fields. He would grab my hand and tell me what he was playing when we came home from work.

He loves the TV show "In the Night Garden" and remembers every episode he saw (you don't want to go to the movies with him because he can't wait to tell you what is going to happen next). Thanks to the internet, I downloaded 50 episodes overnight from all over the world otherwise it's almost impossible that I can watch the show with him.

He learned at least 500 words I guess, some of them we didn't know where he learned from. for example, one day when my mom went into a lottery store, he said "many lotteries" but we never bought or discuss lottery at home. He invents new games and forces everyone at home to play the game as he assigns roles and rules for us.

Last year I woke him up to watch the fireworks at Taipei 101, and I doubt that he remembers it. I think he will remember tomorrow. Farewell, year 2008!

It's been a very busy month at work and also in personal life. Allie and I went to a potential distributor to do sales training in the morning, then came home and pick up my son to have a late lunch with her ex-colleagues. And there was a Christmas party in our community tonight, so I hurried home to prepare the dish we promised to offer for the party. What made this even challenging was that I didn't sleep last night until 5 AM, and tomorrow I have two important meetings to attend. Just heard a terrible news. The fireman killed in action is the husband of my colleague's sister. They were married less than two years, and have a boy just nine months old. My colleague, the sister, is expecting her first baby next week.

I-Lan is a beautiful place. We had a small trip to I-Lan last weekend. We went there on Saturday and came back on Sunday. Monday evening I had an urgent work and had to go to I-Lan again and came back the same day. On Tuesday morning, I got a call and told me that I had to go again. So, I went again and came back in the afternoon. For four consecutive days, I was in both I-Lan and Taipei each day. By the way, I will be going to Taichung tomorrow morning and come back in the afternoon.

I was extremely busy in October, and therefore this blog was squeezed out of my calendar. Yoshi turned one and half, and he is now making obvious progress in talking and walking. He is very curious and adventurous, so it's hard to keep him in one place whole day. In the past two weeks, he began to stick to his mother for some reason in stead of hanging with me, so I have more time to read my books. A child at this young age seems still have access to some unknown source of information, so I often get surprised that he knows something he is not supposed to know.

Life is all about choices. We choose our works, our friends, our neighborhoods, and many other factors of life. All these choices are related. Sometimes you have to live with the results of your earlier choices or choices made by people of your earlier choices -- and you can't complain because it's your choice of life.

on politics, I would vote for Obama if I were a US citizen, but I doubt that everyone will live happily thereafter. However, in the past two Presidential campaigns, the candidates all demonstrated the maturity of democracy in USA. Al Gore is a real statesman who I think may be the only one for the century. Obama of course represents a whole new era, but I think McCain also shows his dignity fighting a losing battle yet refusing to call for racism.

Politicians are reflection of the voters, as media is a reflection of the audience. Last week was a week of disorder and violence in Taiwan according to what the media shows us, and Taiwan looks like going to the edge of riot or martial law. But in fact, I tried very hard to catch up with the reports last weekend because I had meetings with Japanese companies and other customers without noticing a bit of chaos in my daily life. There are always people on both ends of extremes in any society, but the media made the 5% looks like 50%. Until the audience knows how to choose, and until the voters knows what to choose, this is what we can get.

Last night Allie and I had a big fight on the way home. She accused me of being unkind to her. I didn't want to talk about such non-stop topic over and over again every other week. When she began to say if she were some other girls I wouldn't have treat her that way, she really stepped on my red-line. I hate to be accused for something I didn't do. The logic was, she accused me because she cared. I didn't respond means I didn't care. If I say something she didn't like, I don't love her anymore. SO BE IT! Now it's WAR!

Briefly summarize the first week at work after DEMO. We got a lot of media attention because of the award, so I had a chance to talk to many reporters. Unfortunately, most of them were disappointing to me in terms of their background knowledge or even basic writing skills. I wonder where good reporters are doing., chasing political news maybe. However, I met two really good ones from magazines, so there is still hope.

On business side, I received inquiries from countries I'd never expected. There was one software development service company based in Ukraine, and a IT company from Burkina Faso in West Africa. These names only exist in my geography books, and now we are connected by internet.

Personal note on my DEMOfall experience

In one word, awesome! It's a great place for product launch because the media attention is huge, and lots of great people to meet and talk to there. And then, I'm going to say something I hope my boss will not see.

I'd like to thank Shan for bringing us to DEMO, putting her own credit at risk for that we (or I) actually fell in the IDEAS Show. When we were invited to the IDEAS Show, we had no idea what it was for, nor the importance of DEMO Conference. So basically I was appointed by my boss to do a usual "demo" as we do every day, following the instructions from him and deliver what he has in mind. The only adjustment was to make it into six minutes - a rule we heard for the first time. And you should have known that I failed if you are a regular reader of this blog. However, Shan had a strong confidence on our product, so she actually talked Chris into inviting Awind to DEMOfall.

With the experience of failure, plus the fact that my boss and anyone else were extremely busy on daily jobs, again I was assigned to take care of our preparation for DEMO. But this time I have better position to speak since I was the only one who actually did a six-minute demo and knew the response of the audience. So I started writing a script based on the concept of Xiang Sheng (a Chinese duo comedian talk), similar to the Get-a-Mac Ads familiar to the western people. With the help from Shan and Chris, I finished my script and revised it like six times before my boss had any response to the scripts I sent him. Since he was too busy for this, I did all the conference calls with DEMO staff and preparing the stuff with the help of my colleagues. I became the writer and director of our demo.

Finally it was one week before DEMO, and my boss was able to work with me to practice and revise the script -in the spare time of making the demo sample ready before we depart. And, after about 10 times practice, we were on the plane heading for USA.

Then, a could-be disaster. When we arrived the Grande Ballroom for the only one rehearsal, we found the camera for mobile phone screen could not fit into our script at all. I decided to change the script at the last minute, and thanks to the help from the professional DEMO staff, we kind of finished the rehearsal, despite the mess of video transition because no one could follow the new script.

And, you know the rest. We won a DEMOgod Award. But the best part of it was that people came by and said how they liked our demonstration on stage. A guy from Boston who works in Shanghai approached me and asked me if the demo was in the form of Xiang Sheng, and I was like, "Geez! They get it!" It was unbelievable that even in the afternoon of the second day, when the audience had seen dozens of demos, people still recognized us and cheered for us. Thank you to everyone who helped me on the way to the first DEMOgod Award of Taiwan!

Awind takes controlling presentations mobile

SAN DIEGO--If you're the kind of person who runs a lot of PowerPoint presentations, you probably are very familiar with trying to connect your computer to a million different projectors.
But a Taiwanese company called Awind showed at DemoFall today a product called MobiShow which is designed to take the difficult and complex connection problem--what if you don't have the right cables--folks like this face on a regular basis.
MobiShow is a mobile-phone and Wi-Fi based projection controller.
The idea is that with MobiShow running on your mobile phone, you can use that device as what amounts to a remote control for the presentation.
You would run MobiShow--which would be connected to your computer via Wi-Fi--and then use your mobile phone to set the proper screen resolution, as well as to easily click through various slides in a PowerPoint presentation.
This would be extremely useful for the road warriors who until now have been forced to try to always remember to bring the various cables and connections they need to hook up to clients' projection systems. Instead, they can rely solely on their computer and their mobile device.

In its demonstration, Awind showed how the mobiShow can stream a presentation, wirelessly, or an IP-based video for that matter, to a big screen with a range of transition effects typical of a Powerpoint presentation. The technology can also sharpen the image from what appears on the cellphone display to high definition on a big screen.
We can bring anything you want to a TV screen," said Richard Chen, program manager of Awind, who claimed that it's a much more effective way to access and manage video than Apples TV, for example. And yes, he said, mobiShow will work with the iPhone.
No word on when it's coming to the U.S. market, or price. Chen did say the company is opening up the software to developer and Web designers to further tap its potential.

Transition effects, simple animation. These guys are total geeks (and they know it), the slides are Dork City, but this one looks pretty damned cool. Turns phone into media server. Had a blast at one of the startup world’s biggest shindigs, getting to know lots of interesting companies and the fiercely passionate entrepreneurs that run them. Here are my favorites:
Awind allows mobile phone users to wirelessly transmit content (slide presentations, video etc.) from their phone to a standard monitor, projector and certain TV sets. Their solution consists of a modem-sized box that connects to the display plus software that lives on the mobile phone.
Even as the compute power of mobile phones increases exponentially, the mobile user interface is still constrained by the size of the device. Awind’s solution represents part of a broader ecosystem of technologies that can liberate the mobile user interface from its physical constraints, opening up new use cases that could enable mobile phones to become the primary personal computing device of choice in the future.

An Unusual Journey

I had an unusual trip flying home on BR015 from LAX to TPE. The first sign I noticed was that there were three people required wheelchair assistance when boarding. Actually this was the first time I had wheelchair passengers with me on the same flight instead of the more common people with infants. But, l didn't realize that it was only the beginning.

The flight seemed normal. Smooth takeoff, terrible airplane meals, and soon it was time for sleep. When we were in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, I heard someone cried out loud in the back. I thought it was a child who felt boring or uncomfortable during the long flight. Several minutes later, the cabin crew broadcasted and asked for medical professionals - just like in the movies. A male Caucasian two rows in front of me stood up when went back with a flight attendant. After a while, he came back with the flight attendant and the flight attendant was taking notes and asking questions for a long time by the man.

Later - I could not tell for how long because I did not wear my watch - the Captain announced that due to medical situation, we will turn to Haneda Airport (HND) in Tokyo. I suppose all the cabin crew are too young so that they have never heard of this airport before and confused it with Narita (NRT). We landed in Tokyo around four o'clock local time. Emergency crew of Tokyo came on board and performed CPR or other measures necessary for a short while, according to passengers in the same cabin with the ill man. Then, they took him down to a hospital. It seems the man who travels alone had a heart-attack, and perhaps died before any of the doctors examined him -while the cabin crew was calling his name and shaking him for several minutes. I wonder if they will have nightmares when they realized that the time wasted may have killed the man. He left on the plane gifts he bought for his family or friends, who were still in bed and expected to welcome him when they woke up. But, it will never happen.

It took more than two hours in Tokyo to finish paper works and refuel, and another three to fly to Taipei. Life is unpredictable. Attached is a new video of my son. Cease time when you still can, friends.

We won DEMOgod. Unbelievable. DEMOgod awards are chosen by the DEMO staff. 10 companies are chosen from the 72 demonstrated, and 2 teams out of three from Taiwan won DEMOgod award. I think that helps on promoting Taiwan in someway.

DEMO is a really cool conference not like any other trade shows. However, the internet in Sheraton sucks. It costs 11.95 a day for room guests but the speed is like a 33.6K dial-up.

A Hunch?

Sometimes I feel that my son has a hunch when someone is leaving for several days. This week, he always wants to make sure that I am beside him before he sleep. If I am in the living room, he asks me to go to bed with him otherwise he does not sleep. This is unusual because he only sticked with his mother when he felt sleepy in the past few months. So, I wonder if he knows I will not be home next week. I'm not making this up because it happened twice when Allie had business trips. I have no idea why he knows, since I have not packed my luggage or something. Maybe he can sense the atmosphere in the air.

YouTube Upload Sucks

I tried to upload to YouTube, but somehow it is always very hard for me to successfully upload a video. My video was small (under 20 MB), short (within 2 minutes), and I've tried different codecs (MPEG2, MP4, H264...), but more than often I got an error after a long wait. On the contrary, uploading to metacafe is always quick and successful.
